More advanced Dutch

Many ex-pats and foreign residents dread hearing the words, 'Oh, you've been here three years already?' when you know that they're really thinking, '...and you don't speak Dutch!' Your self-confidence dips and you're immediately on the back foot in any encounter because you feel guilty that you haven't made more effort.

We understand that most ex-pats have busy lives - you're not here for a holiday after all - and just don't seem to have the time to learn the language properly but still feel you should.

It's possible you already speak some Dutch and can understand quite a lot of what you hear but are still frustrated when the Dutch revert to English, 'to help you out'. You may also struggle with the more formal language of official forms and letters; or want to be able to read Dutch newspapers or books. You may find that whereas you can communicate orally and follow a conversation, when it comes to writing letters or e-mails, you discover that written Dutch is an entirely different ball game.
